The Data Warehousing Insitute
www.dw-institute.com

The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) is dedicated to helping organizations increase their understanding and use of business intelligence by educating decision makers and I/S professionals on the proper deployment of data warehousing strategies and technologies. In addition, TDWI helps its membership advance their professional development as data warehousing managers and practitioners.

TDWI accomplishes these goals through sharing information about best practices and real-world lessons learned by data warehousing visionaries, practitioners, and pioneers. TDWI hosts annual worldwide conferences and courses on data warehousing and business information strategies where experienced professionals share real-world experiences. TDWI is also the first professional organization to offer a comprehensive data warehousing curriculum.

In addition to its national and international conferences, TDWI conducts on-site courses and publishes the Journal of Data Warehousing, the poster-size Roadmap To Data Warehousing, the comprehensive Data Warehousing: What Works? booklet of successful case studies, course books, and other booklets offering tips and techniques. The Institute also publishes its very popular, monthly Flash Report, providing practitioners with practical and leading-edge views of the industry, its issues, technology directions, and management trends.

In addition, TDWI:

  • edits a data warehousing book series published by Prentice-Hall;
  • collects case studies and white papers;
  • conducts the annual Best Practices in Data Warehousing competition;
  • maintains a comprehensive industry Web site;
  • conducts surveys;
  • supports research programs;
  • operates online moderated discussions (audio teleconferences); and
  • provides references to outstanding speakers, consultants, and system integrators.

The Data Warehousing Institute Conferences

Each year The Data Warehousing Institute brings together teams of data warehousing practitioners to attend well-designed, in-depth half- and full-day courses and case studies on key data warehousing methodologies and technologies. TDWI holds 3-4 international conferences each year in addition to regional events. These conferences are highlighted by:

  • The industry’s highest-rated speakers and instructors who have built data warehouse/marts
  • In-depth half- or full-day courses and tutorials—providing you with time to really learn from the experts
  • Half-day case studies from teams who have endured the process and are willing to share their experiences
  • Insightful keynote presentations by industry leaders
  • Leading data warehousing vendors share their products, technologies, and services through presentations and exhibits

Best Practices In Data Warehousing

The annual Best Practices in Data Warehousing awards help identify models to follow. Top publications in the industry assist the Institute to identify the user organizations which exemplify the best approaches to solving various problems faced by data warehousing managers and staff. This competition has a unique educational dimension—the finalists present their techniques at the Best Practices Conference so that all the participants can learn from their experiences.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Institute Members find significant value from communicating with other data warehousing practitioners who share their same issues, problems, tools, etc. Currently, the active groups include insurance, telecommunications, retail/wholesale, banking/finance, health care, government, manufacturing, and utilities, with more groups forming periodically.
