DM: Case studies/real world examples

Hi,

Does anyone have real world examples of data mining?  Either success
stories or nightmares (that never happens, right??) would be welcome.
I'd like to see an example with money saved or earned, but any other
measurements would be appreciated as well, such as a 10% reduction in
fraud.

I work for AT&T as a programmer.  I am currently doing a project on 
data
mining for school.  I've seen a lot of general examples, but nothing
really detailed.  Thank you for any help.
