I don't know which book you are referring to, but the best book on
neuro-fuzzy stuff is:

   Brown, M., and Harris, C. (1994), Neurofuzzy Adaptive 
   Modelling and Control, NY: Prentice Hall.

Kosko's recent book on _Fuzzy Engineering_ is pretty good, too.
