Research Officer in the field of data mining / data warehousing

15,735 - 21,815 Pound Sterling per annum

Applications are invited for the post of one full-time Research 
Officer, for
12 months from 1 March 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter. The 
person
appointed will be responsible for data warehousing / data mining 
activities
within a European Commission funded Project at NIKEL.


The appointed Research Officer will be responsible for carrying out 
research
in the area of data warehousing / data mining of Internet log files 
and the
application in Electronic Commerce scenarios. The work will involve 
the
design and implementation of a data warehousing environment and the
employment of existing knowledge discovery and data mining algorithms.


For the post of Research Officer applicants must hold a post-graduate 
degree
in computing science or a similar discipline. Experience in 
relational and /
or object-oriented databases is essential; Research experience in Data
Warehousing or Data Mining / Machine Learning is desirable. The post
requires 2 years of industrial or academic research experience. The
candidate will have strong competency in SQL and knowledge of the
programming language C /C++. It is essential that the candidate will 
be
self-motivated, with the ability to work with an inter-disciplinary 
team.
