DM: Data mining info for a project

Hi,

I am a student attending college.  I have a project to do on data 
mining.  I was hoping someone could direct me to a timeline of 
Data mining's history.  Also I am looking for information on how data 
minning is expected to affect the future, and is currently affecting 
people in their homes.

        Any help you can give would be appriciated.
