                     MACHINE LEARNING AND APPLICATIONS
           Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence 1999 (ACAI-99)
                         5-16 July 1999, Greece

The ACAI-99 Programme Committee is pleased to announce a special
programme of 
student presentations to be held in two or more student sessions. The
call is 
open to students who are currently enrolled for a post-graduate 
degree.
The aim is to give the opportunity to post-graduate students to 
present
their 
ongoing work to the invited lecturers, experienced researchers and 
other 
students, by submitting a short (2-page) paper. The short paper should
report 
on current results of their ongoing research. In addition note that:
* All accepted papers will be included in a Student Sessions
Proceedings. 
* A Best Paper Award will be offered by the ACAI-99 Programme 
Committee.



** IMPORTANT DATES **
March 15, 1999: Deadline for Submission of Camera-Ready Student Papers
April 1, 1999: Notification of Student Papers Acceptance



** The submission process **
Submissions are invited in all aspects of Machine Learning. 
Theoretical
papers 
should clearly state the contributions to specific issues of Machine
Learning 
and why they are important. Application oriented papers should state 
why 
Machine Learning methods are necessary and how they are applied to 
solve
particular problems. Comparison results are also welcome.
To facilitate the reviewing process and to make possible their 
inclusion
of
accepted papers in the Proceedings, all submissions must be in a
camera-ready 
form. The camera-ready short papers must be typed in single-column,
Times 
10pt, left and right justified, using A4 paper size and 2.5 cm margins
all 
around. The title should be typed at Times 12pt, the author name(s) at
Times 
11pt and both should be in boldface and centered.
ACAI-99 encourages electronic submissions (Postscript or Word for 
Win95)
in the
e-mail address: nvas@iit.demokritos.gr. If this is not possible, three
hard
copies of the camera-ready paper should be sent by post to the ACAI-99
Student
Sessions Chair, at the address below. The deadline for receipt of the
papers is
MARCH 15, 1999. Submissions received after this date will not be
reviewed.

** The review process: **
The 2-page papers will be reviewed under the control of
ACAI-99 Programme Committee. The ACAI-99 Programme Chair has final
authority
over the review process and all decisions relating to acceptance of
papers.
Accepted papers will be allocated a maximum of 10 min for oral
presentations.



** Grant offers: 

ECCAI (http://www.eccai.org) will provide travel grants for members 
of 
ECCAI member societies. The attendees supported by an ECCAI travel 
grant 
will be charged a reduced registration fee of 300 Euros.

Rob Milne (rmilne@cix.compulink.co.uk), the ECCAI Travel Grant 
Officer, will handle all requests for travel grants. Details will be 
shortly announced in the ECCAI and ACAI Web pages.
